Hi All, still trying to recooperate here..this flu season is really bad..I thought I was getting better, only to get a second round of this stuff..and I think it was worse than the first. My husband, Andy has been so sick too, and isn't feeling himself yet either. Our grandson Howard is finally over the worst of it, and is back to school. I hope this will be the last round that comes our way. Thanks to you all for the get well wishes..and now, finally, a couple of dolls to show..first is Alice. I made her aprox 1:12 scale. She is about 4.5 inches total height, and her face is about the size of a nickle..just a little bigger than true scale, but she is sweet. Hello friends, just wanted to show a couple of fast, and very easy, and inexpensive ornaments I made,..and a sugar plum fairy ornament..not so easy, but so sweet! My friend Maddy, from Santa and the Mrs. (come see Maddy here prompted me to post this. She has a very interesting blog post, I think everyone can not only relate to, but will absolutely enjoy!

The first two are just as simple as can be..all you need is white sculpey clay..5.79 at Walmart in the craft section for a 1 lb box, which would make several dozen..The brown ones are made from this clay too..but I mixed in cinnamon, ground clove, and nutmeg,about two teaspoons of each, which gave it the great gingerbread color, and smell! I added a few drops of vanilla scented oil, but really thats optional. If your clay gets dry from the spices, and you don't have vanilla oil, just use regular vegtable oil to soften it up a bit! I rolled my clay out to 1/4 inch thickness on parchment paper, cut out my snowflake shapes..making sure to put a small hole at the top of each one for a ribbon or string after they are finished.(you could use any shape you like) baked them for about 10 - 12 min on 270* in the regular ol' oven..let them cool, decorated with acrylic paint, and white glitter..cheap stuff at Walmart..it looks like cookie sugar after your done! the brown ones still smell good, and I made these last Christmas! The sugar plum fairy ornament is only 3 1/2 inches tall. I made six different ones last Christmas, sold five, and kept her for me! She was the first one I made, and my favorite! She really sparkles in the lights from the tree! Hope you all enjoyed my little DYI tut on ornaments. xoxo Christel Added note..I added a photo of our simple little tree just for you Maddy!

This is a set of commissioned dolls sold a couple of weeks ago locally. The lady who received them was very pleased. Santa was an eight inch sculpt, and the Mrs at 7 inches. Hello everyone! Yep, I'm still here, just been busy with life. I did manage to complete my version of Santa, a comissioned piece I did this past week. Lightning does Strike Twice..even three times!

This has been one whirlwind of a year for me, from low lows, to high highs..and many in betweens!
The onset of this year was somewhat grim for me, with a diagnosis of certain complete blindness without surgery, that I had no idea how we were going to pay for. For those of you who do not know, I am blind in one eye, and this cannot be fixed. My "good" eye, was not that at all! I had cataracts, and a thickening of the lens which was causing my sight to fade very quickly in that eye as well. After being diagnosed, and being told that without surgery, I would be rendered blind, I was in panic mode. I'm sure you can understand this. But let me tell you, the power of prayer, and a wonderful Dr. are one great combination! My surgery was completely paid for by the Dept For the Blind in Kentucky! Luckily, this program was not income based, but based solely on the fact that without proper insurance coverage, and the diagnosis of potential complete blindness, I was approved, with very little paper work ect..it was very fast!I had the surgery, received a prosthetic lens, and the cataracts removed, my sight was restored in my good eye to 20-30 vision! I need reading glasses, but can see perfectly to drive ect..thank God, I was a danger on the road before!, That was the first, of many extraordinary things to happen. (thank you Jesus)

I knew I had won the machine..that was MORE than enough, but I was also sent this wonderful Travel Tote,.. and attachments..that are not even out in the stores yet! This is a photo of these items in my home..yes, I really did receive it all!..and I didn't have to pay a penny for shipping! How great are these sponsors? How very generous of them to donate the machine..it is awesome, this machine does everything but wash the dishes! It is computerized, and with a push of a button, you can sew to your hearts desire..I am learning all the functionalities of it slowly. and will be going soon to a class provided by Bernina for me to learn everything I need to know! You see, lighting does strike twice! How incredibly lucky am I? I truly am blessed, and feel that a huge part of my "luck" began when I started blogging...and by the grace of God found some wonderful ladies!!. Over the course of many months, I have followed her blogs, and participated on her blogs whenever I can. I really feel that surrounding myself with strong, smart, wonderful ladies, who are creative, and funny, with huge hearts, has made the difference in my life. That, and the grace of God. God has blessed me so much, I hope I can pay it forward..really I do. Now, on to the third strike..I should say Ray of Sunshine instead of lightning striking, because it is Christmas morning here today for sure! Just look at this ! Today, I received a huge box, with my name addressed..in green..you see if you know me, you know I love green! It was sent anonymously..but I know Madame Samm is an angel and had everything to do with this! In fact, sent so nice and neat, and perfectly packaged..it has her name on it, even if it isn't there! This is what was in the box! more than enough for me to be very happily quilting for years to come..(once I learn how that is!)

Yes, ALL of this was in the box! I cried, I do not know what I did to deserve such angels in my life,In fact, I don't feel as if I do deserve them at all, but they are here, and I am so grateful. The box came, with a simple note congratulating me on my winnings, and was signed simply Some Quilting Angels..yes ladies, whomever you are, you are indeed my quilting angels!.

I will break it down, and tell you what all was included! This first photo shows these beautiful Presencia threads, there were 15 different colors! And this sewing basket..which was filled to the brim!

just look, there were five different types of quilting needles, Thimble It stick on thimbles, A seam ripper, handy little Wonder Clips, and a set of glass headed pins..oh no, that's not all, not by far

A great book to help me get started, Sensational small quilts, three quilt block patterns from Littles, and Schnibbles, A pair of Scissors, and a great rotary cutter! no, still not all read on..

and then there are fat quarters..not just a couple..but 32 fat quarters!!..how many quilts can I make with these?..oh my The possibilities are endless here. still with me? no, we're not finished yet..

Look at these great cutting grids..there are four different sizes! And a 24X18 cuuting mat, two different types of new and innovative batting!..and last but not least was a set of wooden bag handles..perhaps for my very first quilted piece..I will post photos of my first accomplishment .

wwhheeewww you still with me? I hope so, and hope that you will all go and meet Madame Samm, you will NOT regret it, she is a one woman main attraction, at the worlds fair of well..everything she puts her mind to! Although she will probably not take her well deserved credit for this wonderful surprise, and choose to remain anonymous like her angel sisters, I am sure God is smiling down on them. Miniature Barn Owl #2 by Manna

No, you are not seeing double..ha ha This is the second piece Manna has sculpted, and it is just as terrific as the first! BUT...she did this one less than half the size of the first! This beautiful Owl is only a little over three inches tall. I just love it, I'm sure you will too. I have listed this piece on my ebay for her, and she is asking a very modest starting price for such a detailed and tiny piece! Wish her luck! Mondays little project..I Love Fall!

good morning everyone, just thought I would post a couple of pictures, and show you what I did yesterday, and this morning. I love fall, and the crisp breeze this morning put me in the mood for some harvest ambiance..lol I gathered together a few things I had, and made a harvest arrangement for my kitchen table. It's a little busy, but it's bright, and cheerful, and will do. I also added a little touch of sunshine in my favorite little nook of my kitchen..yes, my kitchen is green...go figure right?..lol that was this morning,
now yesterday I did this...The white pumpkins were so easy!! I took FolkArt Metallic Peridot acrylic paint, and dry brushed the top and bottom of my pumpkins, Then I simply free hand drew some vines and small leaves cascading around the top - center of each. A quick spray of clear enamel to set the leaves. Then I cut the bottom out of the pumpkins, and cleaned them out . I then used a brass rod..(used for doll armatures) and simply punched holes in the center all around..adding two lines at the top for sufficent air holes and voila" ! two very pretty non traditional pumpkins to set out on my porch! The second project was simple as well...I found a large pumpkin, and spray painted it satin black..or flat will work too. I dusted the top and bottom with silver shiny metallic spray paint..let it dry most of the day..Then I used a sculpting tool..(an orange stick for fingernails will work great too) and simply etched my design in! The small pumpkin was etched as well, but shows the lighter inside of the pumpkin..I paired it with yet another smaller smooth pumpkin, and set this group on the step with a silk floral in harvest colors, and a silk grape vine on top of the large pumpkin! ! Sweet little fall welcome mat..and it won't rot, because it has not been cut! Hope you enjoyed my monday project..I know I did! xoxox Christel

Birds of a feather...

I am so proud of my itty bitty daughter in law..Amanda! .I say itty bitty because shes a tiny little thing..a big wind would take her away!...but she's BIG in the talent department!! Look what she made! This beautiful, realistic barn owl! He is aprox 7 inches tall, perched on a real branch out of our walnut tree. She hand sculpted him over a foil armature, and did his feathers one by one..adding them in layers. She used regular white sculpey..which I find VERY diffucult to make anything out of..I am so impressed with her! I didn't help her at all..nadda, nothing!, and..she has never sculpted or created with clay before. I gave her a set of 8 mm eyes..and she made this! Painted with acrylics, and sealed..it was a gift for my daughter Jamie Lee, who loves owls..Jamie was so excited, and thrilled to have such a beautiful owl. I think we have some competition girls! I am going to be showing more of Amandas work, as well as listing a few things for her on my ebay..wish her luck! xoxo Christel

A New Challenge...

Hello friends! Well, here I am once again, trying something new. I love the Ball Jointed, and Ribbon jointed dolls that are all the rage right now. Abi Monroes dolls are among my very favorite, always timeless, and beautiful.I am inspired every time I visit her blog to try and create one..well, I finally "tried"..lol Anyway, Abi's dolls are AMAZING, and You really must go see them..after you see this...Now, I have been mulling this over in my head for quite some time, and have wanted to try and create a ribbon jointed "MINI"..so without further ado...This is my very first attempt at a mini ribbon (heavy gauge thread) jointed dollie! I have named her Lilyonia..she's a mini fairy, and will have tiny wings too! She is only 4 inches tall, I think she turned out quite sweet for a first try. I have already learned a lot about the do's and don't of creating a mini ribbon jointed doll..I will try tiny s hooks instead of holes on the next one, and perhaps use tiny elastic instead of thread. Would love to know what you think. Lilyonia was so much fun to create, can't wait to get started on another one! Hopefully..a better one!

First photo, no deatials had been sculpted into his chest at this point

Mason is fully sculpted, and sanded..first layer of Genesis Heat Set oils have been applied, and baked in..next more paint, and hair..

The Pod has also has a bit of a face lift..I muted the colors on the fauna floor, although it looks very yellow here, it is in fact more raw sienna, and greens/bronzes/pewters

In this photo, you can see the true colors in Mason pod, as well as the sculpted detailing on it.

Fantasy Pod WIP

HI everyone, hope you are all having a great week. Just thought perhaps some of you would like to see some WIP photos. I have been working on this fantasy pod, and am near completion with it..it is turning out much to my liking, and near exactly as I had envisioned it..not a regular thing for sure..but always welcome! I first took an old piece of barn wood measuring 5x5 square, and drilled two holes into it. Then I inserted two brass rods, and epoxied them into a strong sturdy position...after they dreind completely, I began to add my "tree" pieces..Three distinct branches, created from a floral arrangement, I had dismantled long ago...so we now have a funny looking, "tree on a piece of wood..I then created my pod from foil, and tape, shaping into the hammock it will become, as well as thickening the tree base with foil root system.I then covered it, as well as part of the tree base with regular white sculpey, and sculpted some design details into the pod..ie swirls, bark impressions ect..ok bake at 275* for about twenty minutes..it is turning a bit dark...no worries, it will be painted anyway. Next step, layers, and layers of copper, silver, raw sienna,, burnt umber, sage green, and taupe/gray. Highlight with pewter, and bronze metallic acrylic paint, seal with clear lacquer, let dry overnight... Next step was to embellish the entire Pod Tree..I added colored sand, faux sea weed, string, moss, and fuzzy yarn, then gave it a little bling with bright green glitter in a few spots! What do you think?..look like a comfy spot for a fairy nap?...I hope so!! This piece is 5 and 1/2 inches at it's widest point, and stands 14 inches tall to the tip of the tallest branch. Tools of the Trade

Hello everyone. I don't have a new sculpt to show, I just thought maybe some of you would be interested in seeing some of the basic things I use when creating dolls, as well as future posts on the actual sculpting process! I have had several people ( beginners) ask me where do you get the tools from? What type of clay do I need to get started ect.... I have three photos here, and will explain my method of madness as best I can. Keep in mind, nearly every polymer clay artist has his or her own techniques, favorite tools ect..these are mine, and by no means are the "proper" or only way " of creating a sculpted art doll. On any given sculpture, I will use a variety of tools. The first photo shows the tools most often used. Wire cutters, for armature building, and wing assembly, Scissors for various uses, but mostly hair cutting and clothing styling, Hemostats..I use them for different things, holding wings when drying, holding wire when hot shotting a hand or foot...I will explain that term..it is my term..but simply means, I use an embossing tool to super heat certain areas, it could be the top of the head, the back side of the neck, or a hand or foot, to quick set that piece without an entire body bake. The exacto knife..I use this tool mainly to ensure precise cuts between fingers and toes..I rarely use it for anything else until after the piece is completely fired. The exacto is used after firing, for scrap-ing dark spots, or uneven highs and lows in the clay.I have several different sizes of stylus ,(metal tool with wooden handle ball on each end) but this small sized one pictured is the tool I use the most for nostrils, corners of eyes..little hidden areas hard to get at with other tools. Paint brush handle..actually, wooden tools are my preferred tools..I use this paint brush handle to flatten and round out the face a lot..it works very well for me..I simply roll away the bumps! Of course, the other end, I use as a smoothing tool when applying oil, after sculpting, but before baking. The tool with the darker color wood I use for finger, and toe nails. It has a slight concave shape on one side, and is filed to a rounded point for detailing the nails. The bamboo stick is my most used tool, and my favorite! I use this tool more than any other, and created 85% of my sculptures with it! The wooden knife is a great tool for help with nails and fingers too! The mermaid scale tool is not used as much, but I made this from a thin piece of copper sheeting and an old paint brush handle. The last tool pictured is a smaller size of the nail tool, used for dollhouse scale miniatures. Well, there you have my tool line up..all the wooden tools you see, I made myself... no need for expensive tools, and for me, metal often times leaves dark spots in the clay, so I prefer wood. A nice smooth sanded, and oiled tool is perfect! The last photo is the four tools I use on every piece, and they are really essential..the other tools are simply enhancements, and I can create without them if I had to. One thing I will never ever sculpt without is a CLEAN glass surface..for me, it is mandatory! Hope this little Tut was helpful to someone in need of the information..xoxox Christel

Hi Everyone, been a few days since I posted..this is what I have been up to! I created this unique Etheral Moth Faerie, and named her Phaedra... She has real mink hair, and paper wings coated with liquid clay..I tried to mimick her eye spots of her wings onto her body..what do you think?.. branching out, yes I know, and quite different, but I think she has a magical, etheral quality, and I enjoyed bringing her to life! Something new....something different

At first glance, you might think...another fairy..another woodland creature or wild fae...but take a second look, she is VERY different, I know, and not for everyone. I created this Bird/fae mini bust, I mounted her on a metal pedestal.. She has wings instead of arms, real Fox fur for her hair..(thank you Samm) and real assorted small multi colored feathers, to give her flight.

She is somewhat owl-like, she has hazel/yellow eyes, that are striking..I am trying many new things, and hope you will all follow along with me as I explore.

Her actual height on the pedestal is 5 1/2 inches tall

Her wing span is about 11 inches from tip to tip

She is removeable from the pedestal, and measures 3 inches alone.

Reflecting

Today , July 20th, is my 50th birthday, and a time for reflection for me. There are so many things I dream of, and imagine I will one day see. The first photo is of Austria, my grandfathers birthplace. I would love to know about him, his family, my family. We have very little information about my fathers father, as he was a non english speaking 10 year old boy when he came to America with his 12 year old brother as a stowaway on a boat that eventually docked in New Orleans in 1910. They were alone, remarkable yes? I dream of one day visiting Austria, and hopefully researching my familys geneology there.

I love the ocean, my sister lives in Naples Florida, a beautiful, city with friendly people, and great views. I dream of one day living there, and seeing my sister daily.

I dream of one day living in a beatiful fairytale cottage, and creating my dolls from the window just inside the balcony there on the top floor..wouldn't that be wonderful?

I hope that all your childhood, as well as adult dreams are fulfilled too..that is my dream for my friends. Hairy was my very favorite character in the book Where The Wild Things Are..I remeber checking this book out from the "book mobile" libary we had at school every single week. It fascinated me, and sparked my imagination!! I have to give this book a lot of credit for finding the srtist within me. Hope you all have a great day xoxox Christel

Hello everyone, hope you are having a great week. I am excited to show you Maribelle! I have actually used the name once before, during my first year of sculpting, but it was used for a dollhouse set of sisters, and not a fairy, I think it fits her perfectly!She is a 6 inch doll. I created her eyes differently than I usually do. These were made using a base of translucent cernit, then hand painted with acrylics, and clear fimo gel. After baking, they are glossed with clear varnish. I like these eyes very much, what do you think? I must admit, I still have not mastered the art of applying real lashes to my dolls..I hope it will evenutally come. I'm not sure if you can see them in the photos, but Maribelle wears transparent tights, that are fairy dusted. I am still working on her wings, and hope to list her on ebay soon! xoxox Christel

Hello everyone. I just wanted to put a little update here for those who may be wondering. First of all, thank you all so very much for your messages, and prayers, I appreciate them so much. I am doing well, my distant sight was fully restored..I am elated about that, but now I am having to wear readers for reading of course, and for sculpting..you might think no biggie right?I was wearing strong readers all the time before surgery, but working very close to my face... Well, so far it is proving to be more than challenging for me to sculpt. The implant that was put in my eye is causing quite a different kind of feeling, hard to describe, but it feels as if my eye lid is sticking to my eye, and dragging...my eye is quivering all the time. I know it is very soon, and I am pushing things...this is my downfall, expecting too much too soon..well hoping for too much too soon I guess is better way to say it. I am praying that with further healing, I will not need the reading glasses as much. I am so used to working right in front of my face..as close as 5 inches, that now working at a level where the readers will let me focus is at about 16 inches from my face, and my depth perception is still way off..so I am frustrated, but hopeful. The colors and definition I am able to see at a distance now is nothing short of amazing! I am no longer a danger while driving..thank God! I have discovered that since I can see the photos of the dolls I have created,...MANY of those were NOT how I saw them, not as good as I saw them, not as smooth, nor as cohisive as I percieved, I hope and pray this will improve. No matter what happens, I will continue to create dolls, and learn with each new endeavor, and also continue to learn from my friends, and mentors.You have no idea how important many of you have been in my journey, from where I started in Sept of 07', to where I am now, and where I hope to grow! Most of these (with the exception of Cate And Cole) were made over the past few weeks, since I started this series. I dressed them just like I used to dress my own twins, Jake and Jamie, when they were wee sprouts! This is an 8 inch sculpt I just completed, aand will have listed on ebay starting Sunday night at 8 pm central. I have named him Jhune (June) I was trying to create a more elven-like face, a bit more unique, and feminine, I'm not sure if he is, but he does look different than most of my male sculpts. He is also dark skinned, which I have not tried before.on a large sculpt. I found it VERY sticky, and hard to keep smooth, but all in all, it was a great learning experience, and Jhune turned out pretty well. His wings are real moth wings, we refer to them here in Kentucky as tobbacco flies, because they can often be found at twilight near or on the tobbacco blooms. Each spring I am excited to welcome my little friend Tavii. She is a french gnome who greets me each morning with a sweet smile! She sits with me while I drink my coffee, and sings little tunes only she knows the melody of. Each summer as her colors begin to fade, Tavii flies away. I do not know where she goes, perhaps to another friends home in a warmer climate, or perhaps she must sleep during the winter months. I have not sculpted many portraits in the past, it is very diffucult for me, but I am proud of this one, and hope she looks enough like beautiful Kate Beckinsale, that you can see the likeness, at any rate, it is a very pretty fairy, and I worked very hard on her. Not that I am giving up on the FaeWees, ..oh no, never, but I am trying to broaden my horizons and improve my skills. I am still learning much with every sculpt! Hello everyone! I have been busy, and created this tiny fairy baby I named Bella. I just love her, and am finding it hard to let her go...

Hello friends! First of all, my apologies for not stopping in, and visiting you all. I have been so behind lately. Too much to do, with too little time. I hope you understand.

I would like for you to see my latest WEE folk! This is Milo! I included a picture with a #2 pencil, so you can se how very small he, and his caravan are! I really enjoyed creating this set, even though they are much smaller than most FaeWees, I think the small stature makes them even cuter.I created everything you see here with the exception of the wheels, and snail shells! I love this photograph, I took from my back door! I just stepped out onto the back porch, and took a couple of shots, this one was my favorite. I don't know if Narnia had mail boxes..(smiles) but it was such a great shot, I thought I would share it.Doesn't it remind you of Narnia? Hi friends, would love to know what you think on this one. This is my latest creation, named Mia. (Metamorphic Intelligent Automaton ) She is my entry for the IADR show for Feb the theme is emotion..I was definetely thinking outside the box here, instead of concentrating on a single emotion..going for the stretch, and encompassing all emotions, or the fact that Mia has emotions! what do you think? I personally like her a lot. She was so much fun to create, and she is even poseable!
